What 3,5mm plug is optimized for my Smartphone?

The most popular connecting device to a modern mobile phone or music device is the 3,5mm connector also known as the 3,5mm plug. What for many users is well buried secret is that the 3,5mm plugs can be configured in many different ways and therefore creating different standards, yet still they are looking the same on the outside.

The different mobile phone makers have taken the opportunity to make small differences in their configurations not to make them fully compatible with each other. The difference is clearly noticeable if you connect the wrong headphone to your smartphone. Music and speech will most surely be distorted and sound unclear. You will also notice that the remote control will not work if you are using an iPhone headset for an Android smartphone.

Degauss Labs provides a full range earphone line up for the top ten smartphones makers thus making our headphones match the smartphone you have. Notice! These are plugs, and not adapters. Each earphones model comes with its very own plug type. We want you to be able to identify the different plugs specifically handling the devices they are optimized for, so we branded them the I-Plug, X-Plug and U-Plug. It’s simple: I for iPhone and iPad; X for Android and Windows phones; and U for Universal (Phone, Android and Windows smartphones).

How should you get your new earphones to their best sounding potential?

With your music playlist
You should pick out a playlist where you have a good variation on different sounding audio files. Why they should be different is because the earphones need to go through all different frequencies during the burn- in process. In your playlist you should put in some pauses of silence. The volume on the earphones should not be too high during the burn- in process. This is because you do not want to overload the drivers and damage your earphones. You can use any media player program on your computer or phone for this.

Using burn- in programs
When using burn- in programs you tend to minimize the burn- in time. Many of the burn- in programs you can find free online. Normally it’s pink noise or white noise in these programs. You can also use frequency sweeps and low frequencies. When you break in your earphones with burn- in programs you should schedule pauses of silence. The volume on the earphones should not be too high during the burn- in process. This is because you do not want to overload the driver and damages your earphones.

When using iPhone or iPod Touch
On app store there are free apps with pink noise and white noise to minimize burn- in time. If you search on “burn-in” in app store you will find the appropriate app.

When using an Android phone
On Android market you can find an app for white noise. However, white noise does not go through all the different frequencies.

What is the burn-in time on the different models?

Dual Driver
When using burn-in programs the burn-in time varies from 100-200 hours.
When using your music playlist the burn-in time varies from 150-200 hours.

Sabotage Royale
When using burn-in programs the burn-in time varies from 10-20 hours.
When using your music playlist the burn-in time varies from 10-30 hours.

How do I get an optimized sound experince with my high-end headphones?

When buying new earphones with high quality speaker drivers you need to know about the burn in process. When trying your brand new earphones they might at first sound fairly mediocre. After the burn-in process you will find that your earphones sound more balanced, the treble and bass are clearer. The burn-in time can differ from 20 up to over 200 hours depending on speaker driver type.
